July 2, 1935 ~ October 3, 2018 (age 83)

Longtime Pebble Beach resident William James (Jim) Bower died on October 3, 2018 at Community Hospital surrounded by his immediate family.

Jim, the son of Colonel Harvey Bower and Eleanor Bower, was born in Houston, TX in July, 1935.  Jim attended Stanford University, Duke University, and Rice University, where he received a BS in Mathematics. He also attended the Naval Postgraduate School and received an MBA from Golden Gate University, where he was subsequently a member of the faculty. His career included ten years as an officer in the United States Navy and forty-one years as an investment advisor. He served as President of the Board of the Street Club of Monterey and served on the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood of Monterey County. He actively supported the Pacific Grove Unified School District where he advocated for the retention of Pacific Grove Middle School. He was an avid tennis player and golfer, and served the Northern California Golf Association as a rules official.

Jim was known and respected for his intelligence, ethics, elegance, and a strong first serve. Nothing made Jim prouder than the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diane Bower, sisters Barbara Rondine and Susan Short, his son Andy and his wife Sue, daughter Patrice Kelly, and grandchildren Will Bower, and Matthew and Ryan Kelly.

Mr. Bower requested no services. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Planned Parenthood Mar Monte.
