Russ Guarino, loving husband and father, passed away Monday, August 5. He was 83.
Russ was born on Christmas Day, 1935, in West Hollywood to Julia and Armand Guarino. He graduated from Burbank High School and worked his way through college, graduating from Cal State LA in 1959 with a degree in music and served in the California National Guard. He married Charmain Louise Walker on May Day, 1958, and settled in Pasadena where they raised their two sons.
Russ pursued a professional life in sales and marketing and earned his Charter Life Underwriter certification. He developed a devotion to the game of golf which he passed to his two sons. Russ traveled every summer to the Monterey Peninsula to golf and was able to retire in Pacific Grove in 1998. While enjoying his many passions Russ never lost his affinity for performing music. Though retired in theory, Russ worked to establish his Lighthouse Jazz Band soon upon his relocation north. Russ was a fixture in the Hot Jazz Society and the Monterey music scene for many years.
Russ was a big man who lived life on his own terms. He was preceded in death by his brother Mike, and will be greatly missed by his brothers Patrick and Timothy O’Healy, his wife Charmian, his two sons, four granddaughters and two great grandsons. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove on Friday.
