Mary Ann Taylor

October 31, 1941 ~ February 20, 2019 (age 77)

The world has become a quieter place. Mary Ann Taylor died peacefully with her cat, Mischief, purring in her lap at the Del Monte Assisted Residential Care Center in Pacific Grove, California as the sun began to set on February 20, 2019. She was born Mary Ann Thompson to Paul and Helen (Mindling) Thompson on October 31, 1941 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her early years were spent on Chicago’s North Side until her family moved to Napa, California in the early 1950s. She was a graduate of Napa High School and Stanford University, achieving a BS in Nursing. While at Stanford, she met James Grover Taylor (Jim) whom she would marry in 1966 and be by his side until his passing in 2017. She enjoyed a 40 year career in nursing, raised three children, was an incredibly accomplished chef, world traveller, animal lover, voracious reader and generally one tough gal. She was an athlete in her younger years enjoying swimming, scuba diving, tennis, running and skiing. She participated in Scouting, Parent’s Clubs, chaperoned foreign trips with her children’s schools and was involved with St. John’s Chapel in Monterey for decades. She lived the way she wanted to until her very last day.
Her most proud contribution to this world were her three children; James Taylor (Janet), Kasnya Berry (Brent) and Asher Taylor (Kristal). She is survived by her children, six grandchildren; Alexandra, Kresten, Austin, Amanda, Andrew and Soren as well as her brother Ward Thompson (Barbara) and their sons.
Burial service will be held on Friday April 5th at 1PM at The Monterey Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at St John’s Chapel - 1490 Mark Thomas Drive in Monterey on Saturday April 6th at 11AM with a reception in the Parish Hall to follow. The family wishes to thank the loving staff at the Del Monte Assisted Residential Care Center for their devotion and compassion for which we are forever grateful.
