Louis Pales, Jr.

April 17, 1945 ~ May 24, 2018 (age 73)

Louis Pales Jr, 73, passed away on May 24, 2018 after a long illness. Lou was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Pales Sr and Emilia Pavlovic both of Chicago. He is survived by his sister Judy Pales also of Chicago and Steven Mangham of Monterey, his longtime companion. Lou was an adventurous boy who knew all the transit lines, ran his own newsstand, and loved the Cubs. He graduated from Steinmetz High School; attended Blackburn College and did his graduate work at the University of Missouri. Afterwards, Lou joined the US Army and served honorably in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He was hired by the Defense Manpower Data Center in Washington DC and was soon sent with a few others to open the west coast branch of DMDC in Monterey. After his retirement in 1999, Lou worked in the Scoring division of CTB/McGraw-Hill. Lou's interests included art, folk dancing, and going to garage sales and concerts. He was also a member of the Theatre Alliance. While Lou was quite the jokester, he was known for his willingness to lend an ear, his love of all creatures great and small, and for his generosity. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. At Lou's request, there will be no service though a celebration of his life will be held at a future date. Donations in Lou's memory may be made to The Salvation Army or to Animal Friends Rescue Project.
