Jose De Jesus Hernandez Dena

February 22, 1961 ~ March 10, 2019 (age 58)

Jose de Jesus Hernandez passed away peacefully in Monterey, California on March 10th at the age of 58. He was born on February 22nd, 1961 in Tenzompa, Jalisco Mexico to Fortino Hernandez and Maria Candelaria Dena. He graduated from Franciscan School of Theology, Berkeley in 2002 with a Masters in Arts in Ministry for a Multicultural Church. Jose married Maria Guadalupe Jara, after meeting and being part of the St Francis Xavier Catholic Church’s choir in 1991. After moving to Monterey, Jose and Maria welcomed three children into their home: Karla, Citlalli, and Alejandro. Jose set about teaching his children his love for God and Music. His children remember him as a passionate, encouraging and loving father who always supported them in chasing their dreams.

Jose was an accomplished choir director, composer and talented musician who played the guitar, violin, vihuela, piano, organ, charango and more. Jose was an extremely generous and selfless individual who loved serving everyone around him.

He was passionate about sharing his love for music and learning from all who were willing to share. He was an active and dedicated member of the St Francis Xavier Catholic Church and later San Carlos Cathedral. As someone who lived his life always conscious of others, he always took the time to volunteer activity throughout the community. His humility transcended to all who met him.

Viewing will be from 5pm-8pm on Wednesday, March 13 at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church (1475 La Salle Ave, Seaside, CA 93955).  Burial will follow on Thursday, March 14th: beginning with a mass at 10 am at St Francis Church. Following the burial will take place at 11:30 am in San Carlos Cemetery (792 Fremont St, Monterey, CA 93940), with a reception to follow at the St Francis Parish Hall.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jose's life. The family would like to thank everyone who has given them love and support throughout this time.
