Janet Augusta Barker

August 3, 1923 ~ May 16, 2018 (age 94)

Known by many appellations - Jan, Janny, Granny Janny, Annie and Ane - she was best known for her smile and warm greeting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonathan (aka ”Bud”), with whom she enjoyed 68 years of marriage. Jan is survived by three daughters, five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She grew up in a family with a long naval tradition and married a career naval officer. Moving frequently, she and Bud finally settled in California. They initially settled in the Bay Area where they enjoyed regular sailing excursions. They moved to the Carmel area 38 years ago. Jan’s passion was for her family - particularly so for her grandchildren and later, great grandchildren. She took great delight in their antics and turns of phrase. Also known locally to have the greenest of thumbs, she could make anything grow, even resurrecting plants from the brink of existence! The family wishes to express their appreciation to The Cottages of Carmel and Hospice for their compassionate care given to Jan as she made her final journey. She has been an important and impactful part of all of our lives and she will be missed.

Memorial service and interment of ashes will be held at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church on Friday, June 29th at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her honor be made to The Yellow Brick Road Benefit Shop, 26388 Carmel Rancho Ln, Carmel, CA 93923
