Joe came to America when he was seventeen, to continue his fishing career. He fished up and down the coast of California and Mexico. Joe first became a Captain when his father-in-law saw the extraordinary fisherman Joe was and entrusted him with his own boat the, New Marettimo. In 1949 Joe purchased his first boat, "Gasper Boy" while simultaneously running the New Marettimo, working hard day and night to make sure both boats were successful. He went on to own and Captain, The Gasper Boy II, The St. Bernadette and The Sea Diamond. Joe earned the unparalleled reputation of being a top fisherman among his peers. A Captain among Captains, "Il piu grande captiano," and was a highly-respected member of the fishing community. It was said that he had "Salt water in his veins."
Joe's passion was fishing but his true love was his wife Vitina and his family. Left to honor his memory is his wife Vitina and their children Gasper (Diane), Antoinette Crivello, (Sebastian), Joanna Napoli, Giuseppe (Elizabeth), his grandchildren Phillip, Rosie, Jerry, Lori, Joey, Allison, Anna, Giuseppe Domenico, Giuseppe William, Michael and Victoria. Joe also leaves behind ten Great Grandchildren and one Great, Great Grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gaspare and Antonia, his mother and father-in-law Giuseppe and Giovannina and his son-in-law, Domenico Napoli.
Joe will forever be remembered for his endearing smile and the twinkle in his eyes, his passion for the ocean and his love for his family.
