Frances M. Pettas

October 12, 1925 ~ July 27, 2018 (age 92)

Our beloved Mom, Nana and Auntie Fay passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. A native and lifelong resident of Monterey, she was born to Frank and Maria (Canepa) Costa.
Although she left school early to work in the canneries, her lifelong desire for knowledge was supported by extensive reading and led to the wisdom that was valued by all who knew her. She blessed us all with an unconditional love through humor, wit, wisdom and spaghetti. To her, the most important part of life was raising her five children, which brought her tremendous joy. She was well-known for her green thumb and was passionate about her big beautiful garden.
Frances was predeceased in death by her loving husband of 59 years, John, grandson Jeremy and brother Tony. She is survived by her children: Spiro (Terry), Frank (Rosie), John "Pogo" (Lynn), Jerry, and Susie (Milton); Eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; brothers Mario, Steve,Tommy; sister-in-law Marie and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private family services were held recently. Her family would like to thank the Hospice angels for their kind and loving care. Any donations in Frances' memory can be made to them at: Hospice of the Central Coast 2 Upper Ragsdale Drive D-120 Monterey, CA 93940-5730.
