Charlotte Ann Work

August 22, 1936 ~ April 11, 2018 (age 81)

Charlotte Ann (McCormick) Work
August 22, 1936 - April 11, 2018
Charlotte Ann (McCormick) Work went to be with the Lord and her beloved Robert on April 11th, 2018. Born August 22, 1936 in Beaver Township, Ohio to Georgia Amick (Bowser) and Homer McCormick, she was the youngest of three siblings. She and Robert married on August 2nd, 1952, keeping it secret in an effort to enable her to complete high school. However, the jig was up when her mother eventually decided she was "seeing entirely too much of that Work boy". Their marriage proved to be the example emulated by many other family members. When Robert passed away in 2000 after 48 years of marriage, Charlotte and two other widowed friends formed the Sore Losers Club and refused to attend 50th wedding anniversaries thereafter.
Her incredible ability to distill problems and projects down to their essence served her well during her years as an Administrative Assistant for several, diverse companies. That same attribute was indispensable to her children, and will be sorely missed. She was fiercely independent, coming from a long line of durable McCormick women, and had an impish sense of adventure resulting in treasured photos of her big smile from a hot air balloon, by the pounding surf and with glaciers in Alaska.
Charlotte made sure that her 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren knew they were loved and valued, and her caring spirit extended into the community. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Monterey County Reads via the Panetta Institute for Public Policy, and served on the Worship Committee at St. Philip's Lutheran Church. Her steadfast faith in God comforted her and sustained her throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Robert, sister Mary Jean (McCormick) Clark, and brother Glen McCormick.
She is survived by her sons David (Mary Pat) Work, Bruce (Lana) Work, Carl (Therese) Work, her daughter Kathy Work and many extended family and friends, as well as her much-loved dog Andrew.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday April 21, 2018 at St. Philip's Lutheran Church, 8065 Carmel Valley Rd., Carmel, CA 93923.
Special thanks go out to the staff at CHOMP on Terrace East, Palliative Care, Interventional Radiology (especially Mary Kramer) and Short Stay recovery area, and to Dr. Jerome Rubin, Dr. M. Zach Koontz, Denise Licini, NP and the staff of Pacific Cancer Care for their loving and gentle care of Charlotte and the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Meals on Wheels or the charity of choice .
