Ada Rosalinda Stenin

September 10, 1927 ~ July 28, 2018 (age 90)

Ada Martinez Medero Stenin was born in Havana, Cuba on September 10, 1927 to parents Ismael Martinez Medero and Rosalinda Delgado.
Lover of arts, she also had a doctorate in philosophy and worked as an assistant professor in the catherdral of history of art in Havana. She also had a doctorate in education and MA from Middlebury in language.
She loved languages and at the university learned classic Latin and Greek. 
While in Cuba, she worked at the museum of Fine Arts and also taught at Baldor high school. Her first husband, Edelberto Mora, passed away in 1975. She then married Mark A. Stenin while they were teaching at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey. She also worked with the FBI as an interviewer as well as an interpreter for ATT language line. Ada worked at the DLI for 26 years as a professor and 1 year as acting supervisor.
A devout Catholic, she belonged to Cuban Youth under the guidance of Brother Victorino OFM. She attended mass regularly in Monterey at the Oratorian Chapel. Ada lived a full happy life, first in Cuba and later in her adopted country.
Mark and Ada travelled extensively visiting South America, Western and Eastern Europe, Egypt, Israel, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Russia and the Ukraine. Her favorite countries were France and Italy. She was a Francophile and loved the language. In Italy, they went regularly to Abana a spa near Venice where they enjoyed the food and spa treatments. Ada also loved the Greek culture. In 2015, she went to visit her beloved Cuba with her son Victor and was able to see many familiar places.
Ada was a member of the Monterey History and Art association, the Symphony Guild, Alliance Francaise, the Monterey Peninsula Museum and The Beach and Tennis Club in Pebble Beach.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 50 years Mark A. Stenin, her beloved son Victor A. Mora as well as Mark's niece Olga Vakuleva(Remil) in Russia, and her numerous friends and colleagues who all will miss her greatly. She is preceded in death by her sister in law, Svetlana Zhigulina (Konstantin), Mark's sister.
Ada's family would like to thank the staff at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and the Westland House for the wonderful care they provided before her passing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 11:00am at the Santa Rosalia Chapel within the San Carlos Cemetery, 792 Fremont St., Monterey. Committal will follow at San Carlos Cemetery.
