Randell Kent Bishop

October 29, 1943 ~ April 6, 2018 (age 74)

Randell Kent Bishop died at home on April 6, 2018.  He was born in the old Carmel Hospital on 29 October 1943, spending the majority of his life in the Carmel Woods neighborhood where his parents lived. His late parents, Stanley and Marcella Bishop, were life long residents of the Monterey Peninsula.  Randell attended Woods School, Sunset School, Carmel High School and California College of Arts and Crafts.  After obtaining his teaching credential at Sonoma State University, he started his career teaching in secondary education, eventually leaving the profession to become a landscape designer.  Randell and his late partner, Robert Boger, built and remodeled delightful homes and cottages in Carmel, Carmel Valley and in the Cotswolds villages of England.
Randell was a lifelong supporter of environmental organizations, human rights groups and progressive causes. In recent years he served on the board of Friends of Mission Trail Nature Preserve in Carmel. In spite of the dramatic changes to Carmel during his lifetime, he never stopped loving his hometown, rallying to retain the town’s character and urban forest. Randell is survived by his husband, Laurence Fry, and his corgis Shelby and Barney. Randell leaves behind a long list of loving friends and neighbors who wished him safe travels.
Donations in his memory can be made to FOMTNP/Friends of Mission Trail Nature Preserve, PO Box 505, Carmel, CA 93921.
